I finally found some time to scan some of my earlier photos in and post them to an album. This particular batch is from when my parents and I went to Europe. I chose the better photos, based upon composition, framing, and lighting effects I was able to manage. These were some of the first photos I took with an effort to be concious of what I was doing, not just "point and click".I've leafed back through other old photos and I've found some stuff I'll yet post. However, it'll take some time to scan them all, so I'll do another batch in a bit when I have time again.

For a long time now, I've been interested in photography as a hobby. Several years ago, I received a Nikon N60 as a Christmas present, and have been dabbling with it off and on since. This past year, my wife Linda and I bought a couple of books that explain the ins and outs of taking pictures that explains the science, the technology, and the techniques. The one, "KISS Guide to Photography" I've found to be exteremely useful and easy to start with. To practice and experiment with some of the things I'd learned, I took a few photos of our family Christmas tree from this year in a darkened room. They didn't quite turn out the way I wanted them to, but I think they look nice, nonetheless. I've installed the Gallery2 PHP photo album web application to put my photos in as I get them back from the lab.
I was attempting to take a stylistic shot using exposure compensation mode. I wanted to take the shots so that the lights were pinpoints in the darkness, looking very much like it does in reality, though perhaps a little punctuated. Unfortunately, I went the wrong way, over exposing when I should have under exposed. C'est la vie.
I'm going to try the underexposure, now. I'll post those results as soon as I have them. In addition, as I dig out my old photos from the years gone by since I've started dabbling, I'll scan and post the good ones.
